    Railroad ties, also known as railway sleepers, are sturdy wooden beams historically employed to maintain the gauge and stability of railroad tracks. Typically measuring approximately 7 inches by 9 inches in cross-section and spanning 8 to 8.5 feet in length, these heavy-duty timbers are crafted from durable hardwoods to withstand substantial loads. ​
