Real tip from our yard, compact the base thoroughly before you screed your bedding layer, and keep the bedding sand uniform, usually about one inch. For polymeric sand, make two passes with the plate compactor using a protective pad, then sweep again before the light misting. Keep traffic off the surface until it cures. If rain is in the forecast, cover the work to protect the joints.
